Product Details
Gilbert Talbot served in the 7th Battalion Rifle Brigade The story and letters of Gilbert Talbot, in whose memory ‘Talbot House’ was named in Poperinghe, is fascinating. Many visit both ‘TOC H’ and Gilbert’s grave in Sanctuary Wood but know little about the man himself. His family were aristocratic and he had a traditional upbringing for a boy of his background. He became President of the Oxford Union and a glittering career in politics beckoned but his life ended at Hooge on Friday 30th July 1915. The letters and well written commentary are exemplary that any student of the First World War should not miss. The original book was produced by his father in 1917. In Part II there are cameos on thirty-one personalities mentioned in his letters and much more. 132 pages
