Gheluvelt October 2014

Gheluvelt Service of Remembrance
for the South Wales Borderers, The Welch Regiment and The Royal Welsh
26th October 2014
A moving service was held on 26th October 2014 to commemorate the centenary of the terrific battle that fought in an around the village. It was the third and last of the commemorations that had begun in in Zandvoorde earlier in the morning. The band of the Household Cavalry provided the music that was much appreciated.
As the parade formed up and marched into position 'Men of Harlech' was played. A brief history of the action in October 1914 was given before prayers and the Act of Remembrance. At the end of the ceremony the band played 'We keep a welcome in the hillside'.
A splendid 'vin d'honneur' and delicious canapés were provided by the local authority in the hall in the village square. They certainly were very generous and it was the most convivial occasion.
