Product Details
Edward Tenant served in the 4th Battalion Grenadier Guards Edward ‘Bim’ Tennant was the son of Edward, Baron Glenconner and Lady Pamela. The family was part of ‘the establishment’ and very well connected. He was much loved by his mother who produced the original book in his memory and traces his life from a baby, his school life and then as a soldier in France. It also contains many of his poems including those written in the trenches. The book is highly detailed and provides a fascinating insight into the attitudes of society in Edwardian Britain, Bim’s family life and friends (many of whom were killed in the war), his schooling and the excitement of a newly commissioned officer going to war. Bim was killed on Friday 22nd September 1916 on the Somme and he is buried in Guillemont Road Cemetery together with many of his friends and contemporaries. In Part II there are cameos on fifty-eight personalities mentioned in his letters. 358 pages
