This richly illustrated 218 page book covers the stories of 90 men who gave their lives fighting in World War I and now rest in Bard Cottage Cemetery.
I was amazed at finding so many truly fascinating and moving stories in the cemetery. Two brothers and two cousins lie together with a 16 year old and four 17 year olds and a famous Olympian amongst others.
Each story covers their pre-war history and personal life then following them from joining up, leaving to serve King and Country. Wherever possible a photograph of the individual is included and this volume is rich in those.
You can follow them from one battlefield to another (if they lived that long), to and from the Salient, northern France, the Arras sector and the Somme. It is an invaluable companion on the battlefields.
