Product Details

Sir Richard Sutton served in the 1st Life Guards, the Staff and finally attached to the Guards Machine Gun Regiment

Sir Richard Sutton, 6th Baronet, or ‘Dick’ as he was known to his family and friends, inherited his title at a very young age. This wonderfully produced book was shortly after his death that covers his life from birth. His first letters are from Ludgrove Preparatory School and contain some of his little sketches he sent home. Dick went out to Belgium in October 1914 and soon saw service at the First Battle of Ypres. He continued to serve with the Life Guards until he joined General Sir Henry Rawlinson and served on his staff until at his own request he returned to the front with the Guards Machine Gun Regiment. Dick survived the war only to succumb to influenza and died on Friday 29th November 1918. In Part II there are cameos on eighty-five personalities plus extensive notes on events mentioned in his letters.
